Artist's Comments

This is a terrible scan of a sloppy sketch I drew for the tattoo I'm getting. It will cover my entire back.

I need to go back and touch it up. I'm probably going to change the ends of the cruciform sword as well as the shape of the blade. I also want to add a diagram of the solar system to the back of my neck, so I'm thinking of lengthening the top pair of wings to frame that. Oh, and I'm changing the "YHSHVH" to Hebrew letters.

I cannot critique this piece as it is (a) obviously very personal and (b) a style of art to which I can appreciate, but cannot perform myself.

As one who is interested in both tattoos and esoteric symbolism -I can tell you that I think this is an excellent drawing.

I await the upload of your modified and completed design!

Aw, anyone can critique anything, if they are so invited. I'm glad to have any critique.

Thanks for the compliment! Hopefully, if won't be too long before I get some extra time to finish up the design.

:iconjustburnt1:
awesome sketch dude.
but....(there's always a but)
it seems to me that the cross and the star of David contradict each other.
i know you said its a sword, but it still looks like a cross to me.
im not very knowledgable on the Jewish faith, so pardon my ignorance if they do go together.
regardless, sweet drawing.
:iconvladislausdantes:
It is a cruiciform sword, being both a sword and a cross. The star of David may traditionally not be joined with a cross by most Jews or Christians, I'm something of both and am definitely not easily compared to either.

Anyways, there is no reason for Christians to not incorporate the star as a symbol of their faith, since Judaism is the foundation of all of its precepts. Originally the only distinction between the two was the belief in Christ, until the Christian church decided to persecute their Jewish brothers and removed practically everything remotely Jewish from the faith; only the Torah, given the name the Old Testament survives as an untouched remnant. Communion, as well as the Eucharist were once the Jewish celebration of Passover, but in their current forms, they are all completely different ceremonies.

I guess the easiest way to describe myself would be as a mystic Christian who fully embraces the Jewish roots of the faith. I'd call myself a Messainic Jew (a Jew who believes that Christ was the Messiah), but that term refers to people who are racially Jewish, but who have converted to Christianity, while maintaining their Jewish heritage.

Hope that wasn't too dull for you... I can ramble on if given the chance. Thanks for the compliment!
