This is a photograph of some of the gear for my steampunk skypirate, Vincent Mycroft Dantes, Esq., Captain of the H.M.S. Amaranth.

Close up of my Hephaestus Steam Cannon. I made the Cannon by bolting a bunch of brass lamp parts to the grip of a Colt .45 Griwold replica. Machining all of the pieces to fit and assembling the whole contraption was a full day of work.

Is the non-use of clock parts intentional on your part? Please tell me it is XD It's the one thing about steampunk that always bothered me is the use of precision parts as decoration. XD

And yeah, I always try to make my designs look as much like functional items as I can. I always have specific purposes behind every component, so if something doesn't need little gears on it, I don't use any. I like things that are functional looking and ornamental as well, but it has to make sense.

Ahhh that sounds great! I do the same whenever I can. I never understood decorative without purpose. I have to say I think so far you've made some of my favorite steampunk gear so far just FOR your design aesthetic.
